Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatti pledged his country's continued support for Sudan's stability and security during a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Hussein Awad, on Tuesday.

Abdelatti said Egypt would do its utmost to help Sudanese brothers overcome political, security and humanitarian challenges resulting from the ongoing war in the country.

He highlighted the outcomes of the Cairo conference on 6 and 7 July, which was attended by Sudanese political and civil groups, the most important of which was the recognition of the need to preserve state institutions, provide humanitarian assistance and support to Sudan and its neighbors, and ensure that the Sudanese people retain ownership of the political process.

He also reviewed the progress of development projects undertaken by Egypt in Sudan and pledged his country's continued commitment to such initiatives, including its commitment to responding to the country's humanitarian needs.

Abdelatti stressed the critical need for donor countries and organizations to accelerate the commitments made at the Geneva and Paris meetings in June 2023 and April 2024 respectively, including supporting Sudan and neighboring countries hosting Sudanese refugees, supporting the UN humanitarian response in the country, and helping to bridge the financing gap.

He also discussed Awad's proposed regional projects to help resolve the crisis in Sudan and the important and pivotal role of neighboring countries, especially Egypt, which Abdelatti said was doing its utmost to assist Sudan at this crucial time.

Other topics for discussion include broader bilateral relations and ways to strengthen international coordination alongside regional issues of mutual interest, including the situation in East Africa, the war in the Gaza Strip, security in the Red Sea, the situation in Libya, the Sahel and Sahara regions, and the Renaissance Dam being built by Ethiopia on the Blue Nile in northern Sudan and Egypt.

Awad thanked the Egyptian government for the facilities and services it has provided to the Sudanese people since the crisis began in his country.
