Flick impressed by Yamal, Ansu and Barcelona’s youth as German coach settles in at new club

WASHINGTON: Second-half goals from Argentine forward Juan Brunetta and Maximiliano Meza helped Mexico's Liga MX side beat Major League Soccer 4-1 in an MLS all-star game on Wednesday.

Argentine forward Berterame and Moroccan winger Oussama Idrissi also scored for the Mexican league leaders in a win over Columbus, Ohio.

MLS has won both of its previous meetings with their Mexican rivals, drawing 1-1 and winning 3-2 on penalties in 2021 and winning 2-1 in 2022.

Bertrame, a 25-year-old striker for Mexican club Monterrey CF, opened the scoring in the 16th minute.

Columbus Crew Colombian winger Cucho Hernandez equalised for MLS in the 17th minute.

Idrissi struck for Liga MX in the 41st minute to give his side a 2-1 lead at half-time.

Substitute Brunetta, a forward for Tigres UANL, gave Liga MX the lead in the 68th minute, and Monterrey winger Meza, who came off the bench at the start of the second half, added another goal in the 69th minute to put his team ahead.

Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi has been ruled out of MLS action due to a right ankle injury sustained in Argentina's Copa America final win over Colombia.

Messi, who missed two MLS games last week, remains a doubt for Miami's home game against Puebla on Saturday as Inter begins its defence of the League Cup, a second-ever competition between MLS and Liga MX clubs that begins Friday.
