UNHCR chief warns of ‘insufficent’ humanitarian access to Sudan

JUBA: Humanitarian access to war-torn Sudan remains woefully “inadequate”, increasing the risk of starvation among its population, warned Filippo Grandi, the head of the UN refugee agency. The war has been raging since April 2023 between the regular army under army chief Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and the rapid support paramilitary forces led by his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. The conflict has left tens of thousands dead and displaced more than ten million people, according to the United Nations.
