STAX and Kic release no-front-seam gym tights, annoying feature workout lovers hate

The founders of a beloved Australian fitness brand have caused a frenzy after releasing a pair of gym tights without an “annoying” feature.

Kic founders Steph Claire Smith and Laura Henshaw have just collaborated with activewear brand STAX. to launch their first ever range of fitness apparel.

But while there are 15 different items available, including fitness essentials emblazoned with an empowering message that reads “I am enough”, there’s one product in the collection that has Aussies reaching for their wallets.

The “KIC Full Length Tights”, priced at $89.95, have been designed without a front seam, a detail on leggings many gymgoers have labelled always “annoying”.

Matilda Robertson, who co-owns the Australian fitness label with husband Don, described the no-front-seam design as “revolutionary” – revealing Smith and Henshaw described it as a “must” when working with the brand.

“This addition to our famous Best Black Tights was brought first to STAX. after trialling it in a collection for our sister brand Secondleft Sport,” she told

“We received an influx of positive feedback from customers and both Steph and Laura loved this addition.

“We are excited to now offer both options at STAX. for our customer’s preferences.”

Fans of both Kic, previously known as Keep It Cleaner, and STAX. have also shared their excitement at the lack-of-front-seam on the tights.

“Wow, that’s such a good idea,” one wrote on Instagram.

“Ditching the front-seam looks unreal,” another shared.

Mrs Robertson revealed that the collection, which was initially sold in a limited-edition VIP drop, was so popular, it “almost entirely sold out in the 30 minutes”.

However there’s good news if you missed out.

“The collection is available on presale so customers can secure their pieces once they come back in,” she revealed.

As well as the clever tights, the Kic collection also included a “super cute” pink tracksuit and a range of fitness accessories, such as a yoga mat, cap and socks.

“The collection was a real collaboration between Don as the designer alongside Steph and Laura who gave real community feedback they have received over years of owning their business,” she said.

“Both Don and the girls aligned on their understanding of what their diverse community wants out of a collection and brought it to life so that everyone wearing it would feel empowered to move and could feel comfortable and confident.

“We are blown away by the support from our community, everyone has been so excited especially as the alignment between our brands is so strong, our customers know we share the same values which is so important to us.”

Smith and Henshaw explained the collab with STAX. was a “dream”, stating they went “back and forth” with the designs to get them right for their community.

While it was the first time they had joined forces with STAX, the pair have been long-time fans, most recently attending the launch of its “Racquet Club” line, an assortment of “luxury athletica”, featuring a mix of bike shorts, tennis dresses and crop tops.

Smith and Henshaw were among the long list of stars who attended an exclusive launch event in Sydney’s Breakfast Point last month with the mum-of-one modelled the brand’s “midi bike shorts”, which retail for $59.95, and the $49.95 matching grey “scoop crop” – later sharing a video of the outfit with her 1.5 million followers on Instagram.

Fans were quick to labelling the fitness outfit “unreal”, adding Smith looked “stunning” in the pieces.
