graphics
Shiro and the Coal City
While Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation looks great on its own and has the same quirky character designs as the sequel, Shiro and Coal Town takes things to a whole new level. There's an extra level of detail in every environment that makes the whole place look amazing.
Shiro and Coal City look especially beautiful when the sun goes down. Everything was bathed in golden light. It reminds me of a summer night that never seems to end. Coal Town's deep purple beauty also looks great with the higher contrast.

story
Me and the professor during the summer vacation
Shiro and the Coal City expands Shin chan's world by allowing him to travel to new locations including the Unbent Village, and this is where most of the story takes place. Sadly, you don't learn much about the villain Chuck Discardson until the very end. So the narrative ends with a sense of urgency.
However, in Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation , the professor is an important part of the story from the beginning of the game. And he was consistent. This makes his and Shinchan's story feel more coherent and consistent.

Side content
Shiro and the Coal City
The side content in both games is pretty similar – you can catch bugs and fish and earn pocket money – but it's much more developed in Shiro and Coal Town. First of all, it has proper side missions recorded in the mission log. This will help you feel more connected to the characters in Unbent Village and Coal Town.
You also have a reason to continue catching bugs and fish as needed for missions. Even at the end of the game While you only need to catch the first species in Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation, the additional content in Shiro and Coal Town feels more rewarding and worth your time.

Journal notes
Me and the professor during the summer vacation
In both games, your progress collects creatures and other items. It is recorded in records – in Shiro and Coal Town written by Kazuko and in Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation written by Shin chan himself.
Kazuko's information about all the creatures and items you collect is interesting. It's (and helpful in finding more such items), but it doesn't have the same charm as Shin chan's speech in Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation. You can choose between two subtitles when adding something to your journal. The second option is a fun or witty description.
It's not just what you collect that is recorded in Shinchan's diary in Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation, memorable encounters with the townspeople are also recorded. Which makes it nice to look back on at the end of the game.
5
character
Shiro and the Coal City
Shinchan is of course the main character in both games. But the broader cast of characters (Apart from Shin-chan's parents and younger brother) will be different in the sequel. The characters of Shiro and Coal City are much more memorable. Especially the characters in the titular coal town.
Sumi, the first person you meet in Coal Town, has a cute character design. and determined to bring Coal Town back to its former glory. Back in Unbent Village, characters like curry van driver Sora And Kazuko, who loves fireflies, is also interesting.

Mini games
Shiro and the Coal City
The main mini-game in Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation involves fighting dinosaurs with the local children. It's a fun game. But it depends mostly on chance. Because it is a game of rock-paper-scissors that is admirable. You can also play records at the bar to play different tracks, but there are no rewards for doing so. (Aside from hearing your mix as you walk around)
However, the cart races in Shiro and Coal City are much more developed and fun to play. There are a variety of courses to unlock and achieving the highest score to win rewards can be challenging. You can also customize your cart with different equipment, which adds another level of depth that the dinosaur fighting minigame doesn't really have.

A slice of life
Me and the professor during the summer vacation
One of the best parts of both Shin chan games is how relaxing they are to play. It's like stepping into the summer of your childhood. (If there were dinosaurs and a mysterious coal city, but still remains)
Although Shiro and Coal City still maintain this atmosphere, But it appeared more in myself and the professor during the summer holidays. Almost every day in the first game is spent talking to the locals. Catch fish and insects Or playing games with the kids while Shiro and Coal Town are more focused on taking out Discardson.
2
location
Shiro and the Coal City
Within the city, two games were already scheduled. There are many places to explore. From alleyways to mountain paths Naturally, since Shiro and Coal Town are bigger games. So there are many places to discover in both Unbent Village and Coal Town.
The location of Unbent Village is quiet, especially as you walk up the mountain and along the river. Coal Town is a stark contrast to the dark alleys and cart tracks of the mine. The stark contrast between the two keeps the exploration fresh as you discover more of both locations.

Winner
Shiro and the Coal City
Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation is a great game and is still worth playing. But as the sequel Shiro and Coal Town improved the game in all the right ways.
It (somehow) looks better than before. Its characters are more memorable and a joy to get to know. And add additional side content for you to enjoy. Even though Shiro and Coal City were disappointed with the story, But it has improved in almost every aspect.
