Important points
- It turns out that there is no safe date for the game's release in 2025, as the year will be packed with so many major games.
- In February alone, Avowed will release alongside Assassin's Creed Shadows and Monster Hunter Wilds.
- But that hasn't deterred Obsidian, as the studio believes its game can rise to the top.
When Obsidian's fantasy RPG Avowed releases next year on February 18th, it will be just one of the many hit games releasing that month. That's because after the delay, Assassin's Creed Shadows will launch four days earlier on February 14th, and Monster Hunter Wilds will launch 10 days later on February 28th.

The battle of the Avowed will not disappoint anyone. But its world and characters are pure Obsidian goodness that I can't get enough of.
That's three big Game of the Year contenders in 28 days, and that's not even counting Civilization VII and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.
In other words February is a jam-packed month, but if you ask Carrie Patel, Avowed's director, she isn't worried about the game releasing among its competitors. The reason? 2025 is going to be full of big games.
2025 will be the year forever.
In an interview with GamesRadar, Patel dispelled any concerns. About the release of Avowed in other major games “The wonderful thing about the modern era as a gamer “The thing is, you always have great new stuff coming out,” she said. “I don't think you'll ever find a window where nothing comes out. And you will be the only one going out for a month.”
“But we are very confident that the Avowed will be able to stand on their own.”
Indeed, 2025 is shaping up to be the year of gaming forever. A quick look at GameSpot's 2025 release calendar includes Donkey Kong and the Tales remaster in January, Suikoden in March and the new Fatal Fury in April. And that's just the confirmed date.
Games like Borderlands 4, Grand Theft Auto 6, Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei, and Doom: The Dark Ages are all releasing in 2025, which means there's no perfect time to launch a game. There will be competition one way or another. And there will be stiff competition there.
Still, Patel is confident that Avowed can rise to the top. “I am personally very excited about a lot of those games coming out. And I think we're a different experience from those games as well,” she adds. “So players want an Obsidian-style RPG with our detailed approach to choices and outcomes and storytelling. They will definitely find what they are looking for in Avowed.”
