NetEase Games implements ‘Underage Mode’ across all its games to safeguard younger players

To create a more secure space for underage users, NetEase Games has introduced an ‘Underage Mode’ across its entire game portfolio. This comes after China introduced draft regulations that establish new guidelines for the gaming industry to limit excessive spending on video games.

NetEase’s Underage Mode offers plenty of parental options such as chat blocking

With this new mode, NetEase looks to limit the usage for the younger players who have access to the games and it comes in as a handy tool for controlling the player’s addiction. Speaking of it, the newly introduced Underage Mode encompasses various protective features, including a convenient one-click content filtering option and access to the NetEase Parental Care Platform.

Not only does it provide general support for the filtering option, but it also facilitates effective management and oversight of game content, striving to shield minors from inappropriate material and potential cyberbullying. You get plenty of options like blocking private chat, blocking comments, or even blocking all the gaming channels.

Currently with the feature starting with the first batch of 34 pilot products with the successful implementation, in a general overview, this feature is built upon existing anti-addiction systems and represents a substantial stride toward ensuring the safety of younger players.

This decision is a very welcoming one since China is one of the largest markets in terms of video game players in the world and some of the largest gaming and tech companies, such as Tencent and NetEase. They are also known for strict features such as the internet teenage mode and even followed up with stricter rules later on, and to be fair, these come in very handy for player management.
