AMMAN: King Abdullah told a delegation of US congressional aides at Al Husseinya Palace on Sunday that Jordan would not get involved in the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip and would prioritize the safety of its citizens.
Meanwhile, King Abdullah reiterated Jordan's commitment to maintaining stability in the region. He also called for urgent efforts to de-escalate tensions and an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. He warned that the conflict posed a major threat to the region and called for intensified international efforts to prevent the conflict from escalating into a larger war.
He highlighted the dangers of radical settler attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank and the violations of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. He stressed the need for a political solution based on a two-state principle as the only path to lasting peace and security for Palestinians and Israelis.
King Abdullah also stressed the importance of continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees to ensure that the agency can deliver on its humanitarian mission.
The meeting also covered opportunities to strengthen the US-Jordan relationship, with King Abdullah expressing gratitude for the continued US support. The US delegation recognized Jordan's important role in promoting peace and stability in the region under King Abdullah's leadership.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Residents Ayman Safadi, Dr. Jaafar Hassan, Director of the King's Office, and Jordanian Ambassador to Washington Dina Kawar.
