Christmas lunch hacks: IGA reveals most bought items on Christmas Eve

One major supermarket has run the numbers to help Christmas hosts avoid a last minute panic this year.

IGA has shared the ten most-purchased items in its Australian stores on Christmas Eve last year between 5pm and 7pm, forming a comprehensive list of the last minute items shoppers seem to forget ahead of Christmas Day.

As you’re scoring the ham or making final adjustments to the Christmas table, check this list to save yourself a panicked dash back to the shops before doors close on Christmas Eve.

IGA’s Christmas Eve 2022 basket data (between 5pm – 7pm)

1. Coca Cola 1.25L

2. Black & Gold Thickened Cream

3. Bananas

4. Strawberries

5. Party Ice

6. Doritos Corn Chips Cheese Supreme

7. Tip Top White Bread

8. Smith’s Crinkle Cut Potato Chips Original

9. Red Rock Deli Honey Soy Chicken Chips

10. Lemons

The ultra-specific list even names the flavour of chips people are rushing back to the store for and the exact brand of bread.

Snacks seem to be the most commonly forgotten item, with three different types of chips or crisps on there.

Plenty of fruit is listed as well, either for desserts, along with the cream, or maybe a delicious Christmas Day punch.

It’s no surprise to see ice on the list, with huge queues at service stations on Christmas Day a common sight.

Reigning supreme at number one though is Coca Cola, a people pleaser and diverse item, that can keep the kids happy and the spirits mixed.
